Canada Post shipping labels and rates

Canada Post reaches every address in Canada, including rural and northern communities the private carriers either surcharge heavily or do not serve at all. For anything going to a Canadian consumer it is usually both the cheapest option and the one that avoids the brokerage fees couriers add at the border.

Where Canada Post is strong

  • Delivers to every Canadian address, including rural routes and postal boxes the couriers will not.
  • No customs brokerage fee on the recipient's doorstep, which is the usual complaint about couriers into Canada.
  • Flat-rate and small-packet options are very cheap for light parcels.

What to watch for

  • Canadian addresses use a six-character postal code (K1A 0B1) — the space matters to some systems, and we normalise it for you.
  • Regular Parcel carries no delivery guarantee, so use Expedited or Xpresspost when a date matters.
  • Anything crossing the border needs a customs declaration, whichever direction it travels.
Packaging. Canada Post sells prepaid flat-rate boxes at post offices; otherwise use your own packaging and pay by size and weight.

Canada Post questions

Do I need a Canada Post account?

Yes. Canada Post rates come from your own Canada Post account, which you connect under Settings, Carriers and rates. Your negotiated rates then appear alongside every other carrier.

Is Canada Post cheaper than UPS or FedEx into Canada?

For consumer parcels, almost always — mainly because the couriers add customs brokerage fees the recipient pays on delivery. Compare them side by side on the rate list before you buy.

How long does a parcel from the US to Canada take?

Customs is the variable, not the carrier. Tracked Packet International typically runs 6 to 12 business days door to door, and Xpresspost International is faster where it is available.
